This is the first survey capturing stories specifically from the South Asian multiracial community. 

The multiracial community is the fastest growing underrepresented community in the U.S. As seen in the 2020 U.S. Census, the multiracial population increased 276%, from 9 million people in 2010 to 33.8 million people in 2020.

Please note all responses will be compiled anonymously into a summary or used as examples in our book. Should you agree to be interviewed or write your story (~200-400 words), you can choose to either be identified or remain anonymous. If your story is selected for the book, you will receive a signed copy of the book.

The Capital Area Muslim Bar Association invites SABA-DC to CAMBA's 2021 virtual Annual Meeting, this Tuesday, December 21 at 6:30pm EST.  This year's Meeting will feature a fireside chat with Nabiha Syed, a prominent First Amendment lawyer and President of The Markup, an online publication that investigates the influence of big technology on society.  Nabiha previously served as VP and Associate General Counsel at Buzzfeed, where she oversaw the Steele Dossier litigation.  In addition to being very accomplished, she's a dynamic speaker. D.C. Bar Leadership Academy (Leadership Academy) is currently accepting applications for the Class of 2022.  The application deadline is coming up on December 10, 2021.  

The Leadership Academy is an intensive training program designed to help D.C. Bar members hone their leadership skills and develop pathways of professional leadership through involvement with the D.C. Bar, and voluntary and non-profit organizations.  The program is beneficial for newer as well as veteran attorneys, and represents attorneys from diverse backgrounds, practice settings, and practice areas.

Corporate Scholars Program for the National Capital Region of the Association for Corporate Counsel

The Corporate Scholars Program started in 2003 and is intended to increase diversity in the legal profession by providing paid summer internships. Diversity for this Program is used in its broadest sense, not simply to convey ideas about race and ethnicity, gender identity and sexual orientation, and other protected classes, but also concepts of socio-economic background and an individual’s educational and career path.

Students in the National Capital Region’s service area attending one of the following law schools are eligible to apply: American University, Catholic University, George Mason University, George Washington University, Georgetown University, Howard University, the University of the District of Columbia, the University of Baltimore, the University of Maryland, the University of Richmond, the University of Virginia, and the College of William & Mary. Please see the attached FAQs that include an application link.

Equal Pay Transparency - SABA San Diego

It’s hard to advocate for equal pay when we don’t know how much our colleagues are making. As of now, most of us rely on awkward conversations or close friends in the legal field who are willing to share how much they make a year. Transparency is key to be able to advocate for ourselves. 

SABA-SD has launched an Equal Pay Transparency page, publicly available on SABA-SD’s website. The website is community generated, and the submissions are anonymous, unless the submitter chooses otherwise. The questions have been created to allow for complete anonymity while also being able to intelligently contribute to the discussion. We ask that you submit salary information, and feel free to forward it to others who may be interested in the equal pay initiative.

Speaker Series - Asma Uddin, Author and Lawyer

Asma T. Uddin is a religious liberty lawyer and scholar working for the protection of religious expression for people of all faiths in the U.S. and abroad. Uddin is an active lecturer to diverse religious groups in the U.S. and overseas on the importance of religious liberty, and she is widely published on the topic, including two books: When Islam Is Not a Religion (2019) and The Politics of Vulnerability (2021).

Uddin has worked on a wide variety of religious liberty cases, including several before the U.S. Supreme Court. She has defended religious claimants as diverse as Evangelicals, Sikhs, Muslims, Native Americans, Jews, Catholics, and members of the Nation of Islam. Her legal, academic, and policy work focuses on freedom of expression such as religious garb, land use, access to religious materials in prison, rights of parochial schools, religious arbitration, etc. Uddin worked with the U.S. Department of State on advocacy against the UN Defamation of Religions Resolution. She received a State Department grant to develop the Legal Training Institute in the Middle East and North Africa and Southeast Asian countries.

The Georgetown Immigration Law Journal (GILJ) is the only student-edited law journal in the nation devoted to publishing thought-provoking and intersectional legal scholarship on immigration. At GILJ, we are deeply committed to center our community values, publications, and legal training in diversity and justice. The Journal addresses issues in immigration, human rights, national security, international, labor, constitutional, criminal, and administrative law.

GILJ is currently accepting Notes for our Winter and Spring issues on a rolling basis. We welcome submissions from law students and doctoral students from various disciplines as well. 

Call for (Im)migrant Narratives from Community Members, Lawyers, and Students

GILJ is pleased to launch a new initiative to amplify personal narratives and stories of imagination for (im)migrant futures from community members, students, and lawyers through our online publication. Immigrant stories are often excluded from legal academia and discourse, and we wish to bridge that gap. There is no "right" topic. We want to hear your personal narrative and stories around imagination for (im)migrant futures—ranging from your personal experiences to family experiences to client experiences—whatever and however you want to share with us. Our hope is to publish as many stories as we can.
