IP Law Section Presents: Fireside Chat with Michelle Lee

Bar Intellectual Property (IP) Law Section, the IP Section of the South Asian Bar Association (SABA-DC) and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA-DC) invite you in welcoming Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Michelle K. Lee for a discussion of current developments in patent law and policy. Director Lee is the first woman and Asian American and Pacific Islander to serve as head of the patent system. Director Lee will discuss several initiatives of the USPTO, including the Patent Quality Initiative aimed at enhancing examination and patent quality. As a principal advisor to President Obama on IP matters, she will also discuss current proposals for patent reform in Congress, and more generally, the role of patents and other IP in driving innovation. Director Lee looks forward to hearing the IP community’s perspectives on these issues, as well as other ways that the USPTO and the Administration can help promote innovation and the success of its user community.
