Serial, the real life podcast about the trial and conviction of Adnan Syed for the 1999 murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee became an instant pop-culture phenomenon last year. Syed’s trial and conviction were nothing short of controversial. Syed is now serving a life sentence in a Maryland state prison, yet he still has hope as he was recently granted an appeal to challenge his conviction. The Maryland Court of Special Appeals is scheduled to hear arguments in Syed's case in June 2015.
Syed’s case was first brought to Serial by Baltimore attorney Rabia Chaudry, who made several appearances on the podcast. SABA-DC, SABA North America, and Arent Fox LLP are proud to host an evening with Rabia Chaudhry, contributor to the Serial podcast and family friend of Adnan Syed. Come join her as she discusses Syed’s case, his upcoming appeal, the Serial podcast, and what lies next in this riveting drama.
Rabia Chaudry is an attorney and a National Security Fellow with the New America Foundation. Before this, she primarily worked in a federal immigration law practice. She is a graduate of George Mason Law School and currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland. You can follow her blog and Syed’s story at http://www.splitthemoon.com/.
