The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of the General Counsel’s Appellate group in Washington, D.C. is seeking to hire talented and committed attorneys interested in complex and challenging work.

The Office of the General Counsel at the Securities and Exchange Commission seeks an attorney to join our Appellate Litigation and Bankruptcy group.  The group briefs and argues appeals in the U.S. Courts of Appeals and manages the Commission’s national bankruptcy program.  This attorney will be responsible for representing the Commission in appeals involving both bankruptcy cases filed by companies with a significant number of public security holders and bankruptcy cases in which the Commission has an interest as a creditor.  The Commission’s appellate attorneys also handle cases involving the enforcement of – or challenges to – the federal securities laws, including appeals from district court enforcement actions and Commission adjudicatory proceedings, as well as participation by the Commission as amicus curiae in other actions that involve the interpretation of the federal securities laws or the Bankruptcy Code.  OGC is committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities. HOW TO APPLY

  All applicants must possess the following:

·          J.D. or LL.B. degree;

·          Active membership of the bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and

·          To be considered at the following pay levels:

o    SK-13  Two years post J.D. experience as a practicing attorney, one year of which should be in the specialty area of bankruptcy litigation. Salary range: $113,533 – $192.347.

o    SK-12   One year post J.D. experience as a practicing attorney. Salary range: $95,470 – $161,756.

 

   Preferred experience:

·          Prior federal judicial clerkships; or

·          Litigation experience including drafting motions and pleadings.
