Salary range: LS-11/12-$59,838--$74,110*
Duties The incumbent will be responsible for a full attorney caseload in the Public Advocacy Section, focusing on civil enforcement actions against failures to pay, including fraudulent failures to pay, required tuition for non-resident students who have attended public schools in the District of Columbia. These actions will include actions under the False Claims Act for treble damages and civil penalties, as well as collection actions under the Non-Resident Tuition Act. Duties will extend to all aspects of civil enforcement at the trial court level, including investigating the residency of students for whom tuition has not been paid, evaluating allegations of fraud, drafting complaints for filing in the D.C. Superior Court, conducting formal and informal discovery, drafting motion papers, arguing motions, trying cases, and negotiating settlements. Some of the assigned cases will be complex, involving multiple defendants, numerous witnesses, and extensive discovery.
The successful candidate must have a law degree and be an active member in good standing of the bar of any jurisdiction. If you are not a member of the District of Columbia Bar, you must be sworn into the District of Columbia Bar within 360 days of your initial hire as an attorney with the bar. Successful candidate must have strong research and writing skills; excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a faced-paced environment; 1-2 years of prior litigation experience preferred.
This position is inside the Collective Bargaining Unit. Candidates for the position may be subject to a background check.

The Public Safety Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia is seeking a trial attorney for the Criminal Section. The Criminal Section prosecutes adults who commit certain types of offenses within the District of Columbia. Specifically, the Section prosecutes all adult misdemeanor traffic offenses, including impaired driving cases and cases involving individuals who flee after accidents; quality of life offenses, including all offenses relating to providing alcohol to minors and possession of false identification to purchase alcohol, as well as indecent exposure, unregistered firearms, and unlawful possession of ammunition. Duties include interviewing and preparing police and civilian witnesses; making charging decisions; researching, writing, and litigating motions; and managing all aspects of a trial calendar from intake through sentencing, including bench and jury trials.
The successful candidate must have a law degree and be a member of the District of Columbia Bar or eligible for waiver into the bar. The successful candidate must have a law degree and be an active member in good standing of the bar of any jurisdiction. If you are not a member of the District of Columbia Bar, you must be sworn into the District of Columbia Bar within 360 days of your initial hire as an attorney with the bar. Prior criminal prosecution experience is preferred, but not required. Candidates with clerkship experience or with a strong unrelated background and a commitment to prosecution will also be considered.
This position is within the Collective Bargaining Unit. Candidates for the position may be subject to a background check. This position is no higher than a grade LS-12.
