 Calderón Seguin PLC- ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY JOB POSTING

 

Our firm (http://www.calderonseguin.com) is hiring an entry-level associate attorney to join our team. We are a small firm located in Fairfax, VA and accessible from the Dunn Loring metro stop. Our firm primarily practices immigration, criminal, and family law with a focus on the unique intersection between immigration and criminal laws. Our attorneys regularly litigate cases in federal, administrative, and state courts in jurisdictions across Virginia and Maryland.

 

We are looking for a recent law graduate with demonstrated interest and experience in litigation, immigration, criminal, and/or family law. Our ideal candidate will have strong legal research, writing, and communication skills as well as a sense of humor. Spanish fluency or strong proficiency required, with preference given to other language skills. Virginia license also required.

 

Summary of Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 Directly represent clients in various immigration, criminal, and domestic matters before Immigration Court, Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court;

 Directly represent clients in interviews at USCIS, hearings at Immigration Court, and criminal and domestic hearings in VA;

 Carry active caseloads of immigration, criminal, and domestic cases under the supervision of experienced attorneys;

 Engage in client interviews, meetings, and consultations;

 Communicate with clients, lay witnesses, expert witnesses, opposing counsel, and government officials and staff;

 Prepare client applications for submission to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Arlington or Baltimore Immigration Courts;

 Draft and file motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and discovery responses for pending criminal and domestic cases in VA courts;

 Draft and file appellate briefs to administrative agencies (ex. Board of Immigration Appeals, Administrative Appeals Office) and VA appellate courts (ex. Supreme Court of Virginia);

 Conduct legal research into various immigration, criminal, and domestic issues and prepare memoranda regarding complex legal issues; and

 Coordinate all aspects of a client’s case, including client communication, relevant research, translation, personal statements, intake and forms, and advocacy with law enforcement, court personnel, non-profit organizations, etc.
