About the Office: 

The Civil Division, with more than 1,000 attorneys and 14 litigating components, represents the United States, its departments and agencies, Members of Congress, Cabinet officers and other Federal employees.

The Corporate/Financial Litigation Section of the Commercial Litigation Branch handles complex commercial litigation matters, most of which involve large sums of money and/or issues of national significance.  The Section's cases, which are both affirmative and defensive, are litigated in bankruptcy, district and appellate courts throughout the United States.

Job Description: 

 The Corporate/Financial Litigation Section seeks experienced attorneys to represent the United States in a broad range of complex litigation matters.  Attorneys in the Section have a varied practice that includes, but is not limited to,  bankruptcy, contract disputes, and government loan and grant programs. 


Qualifications: 

 Applicants must be a graduate from a full course of study in a School of Law accredited by the American Bar Association and be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. 

Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), have at least one year of post J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-12 level; two years of post J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-13 level; and three years of post J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-14 level, and four years of post J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-15 level.  You must also be a U.S. citizen. 

An exceptional background and judicial clerkship experience are highly desirable.  Applicants should have a strong background in litigation, as well as excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.  Excellent writing skills and good judgment are critical.  Experience handling Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases or complex commercial litigation matters is strongly preferred. 


Salary: $77,490.00 to $160,300.00 / Per Year

Travel: Less than 25% travel is required.
