The Law Offices of Luis C. Diaz LLC are seeking a full-time associate to assist with all aspects of our immigration practice. Salary is commensurate with experience. We represent asylum seekers, unaccompanied children, detained non-citizens, and families. We are a fast-paced and quickly growing firm currently comprised of 2 attorneys and 4 Admin/Support Staff members.

Our office is located less than ten minutes from Silver Spring metro close to downtown Silver Spring.

Desired Skills:

• ·         Spanish skills REQUIRED- please do not apply if you are not fluent in Spanish
• ·         Strong research and writing skills
• ·         Interest in immigration law and desire to advocate for the rights of non-citizens
• ·         Some experience in immigration law would be a bonus, but not required

Duties Include:

• ·         Court Appearances before the U.S. Immigration Courts and Maryland State Court Proceedings (Mostly Custody)
• ·         Legal researchà related to immigration law: humanitarian immigration and immigration detention issues; related to family law: custody, guardianship, child abuse and neglect
• ·         Other research à related to country conditions, human rights reports, political regimes
• ·         Writing à asylum briefs outlining persecution, country conditions and particular social groups; briefs to support reductions in bond; petitions for custody or guardianship and related Special Immigrant Juvenile Status petitions; client affidavits
