SUMMER 2018 LAW STUDENT POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Office of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP) was established at the Department of the Treasury under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. SIGTARP’s mission is to conduct, supervise, and coordinate audits and investigations of the purchase, management, and sale of assets by the Secretary under the TARP. We are looking for law clerks to assist our team as we take on our responsibility to oversee this historic program and its participants.
The Office of General Counsel (OGC) provides expert legal guidance and support to SIGTARP in all areas, including auditing, criminal investigations, litigation, legislation, regulation, Congressional relations, personnel and employee relations, equal employment, the Freedom of Information Act, the Privacy Act, and other areas of administrative law.
QUALIFICATIONS:
All applicants must have completed at least one year of law school by the start of the internship and should have an interest in public service. Superior academic credentials, law review/journal, and/or trial team/moot court experience preferred.
DATE POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE:
Summer 2018. Student appointments will be on a semester basis, with a preferred minimum commitment of 10 weeks. Students are expected to work 40 hours a week.
DUTIES:
Provide legal assistance and support in the Office of the General Counsel under supervision of attorneys and the General Counsel on topics such as administrative law, personnel law, EEO law, ethics, Privacy Act, FOIA, commercial transactions, and criminal law.
Provide advice, interpretations, and determinations on matters involved in SIGTARP programs and missions, including audits and investigations.
Perform research of statutes, legislative histories, regulations, court decisions, administrative rules and decisions, policies and practices of other governmental agencies, legal articles, and other writings.
Perform other duties assigned in support of SIGTARPs mission.
NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
OGC anticipates selecting up to 3 volunteer Law Clerk/Interns per semester.
SALARY:
Volunteer (without compensation), but the selectee may apply for law school academic credit, with OGC assistance and support.
