Intern, Office of General Counsel, National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)
Description: The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) was established by Congress in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government that funds, promotes, and strengthens the creative capacity of our communities by providing all Americans with diverse opportunities for arts participation. To date, the NEA has awarded more than $5 billion to support artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation for the benefit of individuals and communities. The NEA extends its work through partnerships with state arts agencies, local leaders, other federal agencies, and the philanthropic sector.
Internship: Interns are involved in the day-to-day operations of the General Counsel's Office. They work closely with the General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel, and other NEA staff on a broad range of projects. Interns will be introduced to a variety of issues that pertain to administrative law, nonprofit arts organizations, and federal grantmaking. These positions are volunteer (without compensation) however academic credit may be earned.

Because of the nature of this internship, we require applicants to have completed at least one year of law school. However, there are a number of other internship positions available at the NEA.
