Monday, September 24, 2018 3:02 PM | SABA DC Communications (Administrator)

2019-2020 CORPORATION COUNSEL HONORS FELLOW

Each year, in addition to hiring a 50 person entry class, the Law Department hires one Corporation Counsel Honors Fellow to work closely with Corporation Counsel Zachary Carter and other members of the Department’s senior staff on significant legal and policy issues pertaining to municipal governance.  The Honors Fellow enjoys a behind the scenes view into the operations and governance of the City of New York with a focus on the major legal issues facing the City during the course of the fellowship year.

Honors Fellow applicants are welcome to express interest in working closely with specific divisions. Past Honors Fellows have gained significant experience in legal counseling and advising, legislative drafting, real estate transactions, trial court level litigation, and appellate litigation.  Fellowship applicants may also request assignments in specific areas of the law such as employment, land use, tax certiorari, constitutional, administrative, environmental and commercial law.  Learn more about the 16 legal divisions at the Law Department on our website - https://www1.nyc.gov/site/law/divisions/legal-divisions.page.

Applicants for the Fellowship Program must have a record of academic excellence and a demonstrable interest in urban affairs and governance.  Applicants must be graduating law school in 2019 or be no more than three years out of law school and either admitted to the New York State bar or in the process of becoming admitted.  Successful candidates will be chosen by a committee of senior executives at the Law Department. The Fellowship stipend will be equal to the salary of a first year attorney at the NYC Law Department, which is currently $68,494, plus City employee benefits.

Applications should include a resume, writing sample, law school transcript and three references.  In addition, applicants must submit a statement of interest of no more than 500 words including a discussion of what legal issues and experiences they would be most interested in exploring through the Honors Fellowship.

Applications should be submitted prior to October 26, 2018, through our on-line application process - https://lawcruit.micronapps.com/sup/lc_supp_app_frm.aspx?lawfirm=217&id=10.
