JOB DESCRIPTION – COUNSEL
Counsel and Democratic Professional Staff Member for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
- Opening for motivated and energetic lawyer to join small counsel team to support the Vice Chairman and Democratic Committee members in overseeing the Intelligence Community (IC).
- Required experience with and knowledge of the legislative process and, in particular, Senate procedure and national security law.
- Desired experience with and knowledge of privacy and civil liberties issues, surveillance law, and the intersection of Title 10 and Title 50 authorities.
- Responsibilities include analyzing a broad range of legal matters that affect the IC (e.g., regarding counterintelligence, appropriations law, covert action) and the annual Intelligence Authorization Act.
- Applicants must have a record of leadership and initiative.
- The position requires strategic thinking, the ability to work both independently and have a demonstrated ability to work in a bipartisan manner, and outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- The ideal candidate must be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment whileretaining their perspective and sense of humor as to the task at hand.
- J.D. with a license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction is required.
- The ideal candidate will have at least five years post-law school experience, preferably ingovernment or another congressional committee.
- An active TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance required.
- No recent graduates please.
