    Job Description: 

    CTS is seeking experienced attorneys to work in all areas of the counterterrorism mission, including the application of investigative techniques to the task of identifying and disrupting terrorist plots before they occur.  CTS Trial Attorneys work closely with agents from the FBI, the CTS Regional Coordinators, and the National Security Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council (ATAC) Coordinators and terrorism prosecutors in U.S. Attorneys’ Offices throughout the country to support investigations, review intelligence, and assist in the resulting criminal litigation. CTS Trial Attorneys occasionally assist with the development of policies, plans, operations, and initiatives to promote the enforcement of terrorism statutes.  In addition to its case-related work, CTS Trial Attorneys are occasionally engaged in identifying terrorist trends and patterns, foreign and domestic training, public speaking, and topical writing in this enforcement area.  CTS Trial Attorneys are also involved with the design of, and participation in, terrorism training exercises with the interagency community, and other emergency preparedness-related activities, as part of CTS’s efforts to prepare for and respond to terrorist threats.

    ATTORNEY OPPORTUNITIES IN THE OFFICE OF THE GENERAL COUNSEL

    The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of the General Counsel’s Legal Policy 2 Group in Washington, D.C. is seeking to hire talented and committed attorneys interested in complex and challenging work.

    The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of the General Counsel seeks attorneys to join our Legal Policy 2 Group. This group provides legal and policy analysis to the Commission, individual commissioners, and attorneys in the Commission’s divisions/offices concerning the federal securities laws, administrative laws, and other applicable laws. It also analyzes regulatory recommendations to the Commission particularly in the areas of corporation finance disclosure and accounting.  Attorneys in this group provide advice on novel questions and substantive procedural questions; review and provide feedback on proposals for rules and regulations drafted by other Commission offices; address complex matters involved in the drafting, interpreting, and application of legislation, regulations, and orders; and analyze the legal aspects of policy and regulatory alternatives.

     HOW TO APPLY

    All applicants must possess the following:

    • JD. or LL.B. degree;
    • Active membership of the bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and Two years post-J.D. identifying legal issues, conducting legal research, providing legal analyses, providing legal solutions/recommendations, and preparing legal documents, such as memoranda, correspondence, and orderswhich also includes at least one year providing advice and analysis of complex legal issues related to the laws, rules and regulations that govern the securities industry (e.g., the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934), the Administrative Procedure Act, and other rulemaking administrative statues.  

    Salary range: $113,533 – $192,347.

      The Congressional Research Service (CRS) Office of the Counselor to the Director is seeking a legal advisor. The Office of the Counselor to the Director examines and defines the range of legal and policy questions and issues that arise from CRS operations, as well as its relationship with Congress, and other service units within the Library of Congress. It also serves as the principal legal and policy advisor to the Director, Deputy Director and other senior management officials.

       

      CRS works exclusively for the United States Congress, providing policy and legal analysis to committees and Members of both the House and Senate, regardless of party affiliation. As a legislative branch agency within the Library of Congress, CRS has been a valued and respected resource on Capitol Hill for more than a century. CRS is well known for analysis that is authoritative, confidential, objective, and nonpartisan. Its highest priority is to ensure that Congress has immediate access to the nation’s best thinking on public policy issues of interest to its Members and Committees.

       

      Legal advisor duties include:

    • ·        Works with CRS and Library officials in the development and administration of labor relations policies and activities in CRS.
    • ·        Participates in the formulation of policies and assists in their implementation Service-wide.
    • ·        Participates in legal analyses and consultation on questions of statutory interpretation.
    • ·        Provides legal advice and guidance to supervisors and managers.
    • ·        Reviews proposed contracts and associated legal questions.
    • ·        Researches legal issues arising in connection with the statutory procedures.
    • ·        Maintains cooperative working relationships with Library and department management officials, and government agencies in order to advance the programs and objectives of CRS and the Library.
