We fight to save Net Neutrality, achieve affordable internet access for all, uplift the voices of people of color in the media, challenge old and new media gatekeepers to serve the public interest, end unwarranted surveillance, defend press freedom and reimagine local journalism.

    We’re hiring a policy counsel to work on cutting-edge, high-profile, and significant legal cases and rulemakings in proceedings before the Federal Communications Commission, Congress and the courts, as well as other federal and state agencies. They will work as part of a cross-disciplinary team at Free Press and in coordination with coalition partners, strategic allies and outside counsel, to maximize available resources and build our capacity to challenge well-financed opposition.

    The policy counsel will work to advance internet freedom, press freedom, platform accountability and media reparations — putting pressure on media and tech companies, and policy makers, to transform media and technology policy to realize a just society.

    A successful candidate will have a J.D. and 8+ years of directly relevant experience in media, technology and telecommunications policy, with experience in nonprofits and organizing preferred.  This position is based in D.C., working remotely until our office reopens.

    Starting salary is $85,000-$90,000 and will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. To counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, we use a nonnegotiable starting salary system, while benchmarking our pay to competitive markets in the nonprofit sector.

    Description: The Multicultural Center (MC) at NVFS provides multicultural mental health, case management and legal services that address the needs of low-income, English-limited immigrants and refugees for whom existing services are inaccessible due to language and cultural barriers. Clients include individuals from all cultural and ethnic groups whose mental health and socio-economic stability is compromised as a result of trauma, poverty, chronic stress, and other tremendous challenges posed by the process of cultural adjustment. Trauma informed services are provided by bilingual, bicultural counselors, therapists, case managers and attorneys/ accredited representatives.

    The Managing Immigration Attorney functions as the immigration legal expert on the Multicultural Center Management Team. This role is responsible for the daily operations of the Immigration Legal Services program including planning, organization, implementation, documentation and coordination of legal services delivery. The Managing Immigration Attorney exercises independent judgment and decision-making authority, including around policies, procedures, and staff supervision. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all ethical and professional rules, as well as providing quality control for the program as a whole. The Managing Immigration Attorney also represents low income, culturally diverse clients in humanitarian and family-based immigration cases. This position is part of the Multicultural Center leadership team and has a starting salary of $70,000. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be working remotely while providing some essential services which may require occasional in-person and/or in-office work.

    Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) is seeking experienced candidates for two Counsel positions on his Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations staff. These individuals will lead intensive, long-range, bipartisan investigations into issues impacting the federal government and the private sector.  Responsibilities will include developing investigative plans, conducting briefings and interviews, reviewing document productions, drafting reports and memoranda, preparing for hearings, and coordinating with personal office staff on legislative proposals.  Candidates must have strong writing, analytical, communication, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to operate effectively under pressure. Prior investigative or prosecutorial experience is preferred. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience working on one or more of the following issues: human trafficking; organized crime, money laundering, and other types of financial crime; civil liberties and other issues related to law enforcement and detention practices; or privacy and other challenges facing the technology industry. These are senior-level positions with a salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 annually plus additional benefits.
