Dr. Vivek H. Murthy
Dr. Vivek H. Murthy was sworn in as the 21st surgeon general of the United States on March 25, 2021. This is the second tenure as the "nation's doctor," Dr. Murthy served as the 19th surgeon general of the United States from December 15, 2014 to April 21, 2017. During his first term as surgeon general, Dr. Murthy worked on public health issues such as the opioid crisis, the promotion of physical exercise, and combating loneliness and the stigma of mental illness.
In 2020, Dr. Murthy authored the New York Times Bestselling Book, Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World. Dr. Murthy received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard and his M.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Yale.
