    OVERSIGHT & INVESTIGATIONS COUNSEL –

    The Democratic Staff of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs seeks a Counsel to support the Committee’s work on oversight and investigations.
    Primary responsibilities include the development and execution of oversight and investigations of the U.S. State Department and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other agencies within the Committee’s jurisdiction. The candidate will also manage document productions; conduct interviews; work with whistleblowers; conduct research; draft reports, memoranda, and correspondence. Additionally, the candidate will prepare the Chairman and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee for hearings and other oversight engagements; meet with stakeholders; and assist in drafting legislation and preparing and staffing markups and legislative floor action.
     
    Ideal candidates should have experience with congressional, administrative or law enforcement investigations. Familiarity with the work of the Committee, the U.S. State Department, USAID and relevant agencies and committees on Capitol Hill is desired.

    The selectee will serve as the Director of the Office of Municipal Securities (OMS) insuring that the Office effectively and efficiently administers all aspects of its municipal securities program and its oversight of Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) rulemaking pertaining to brokers, dealers, advisors, investors and issuers in connection with municipal securities.

    Typical Duties Include:

    • Planning and managing the Commission's municipal securities regulatory program. Program-related activities include program strategic planning, workforce planning, and resource management.
    • Overseeing and coordinating the implementation of the SEC's final rules on registration of municipal advisors.
    • Assessing the economic impact, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of existing and/or proposed legislation, standards, regulations, and/or policies in order to develop, review, and/or approve high-level policies that have a broad impact on the municipal securities market.
    • Formulating and recommending policy to the Chair and Commission. Coordinates the Office's activities with those of other Divisions and Offices concerning the municipal securities market.
    • Directing Office staff in the formulation of views and comments regarding the Office position on pending legislation, proposed rules, and regulations concerning the municipal securities market.
    • Consulting with Congressional staff, other Federal officials, State and local government officials, and private sector professionals on matters affecting municipal securities.
    • Participates in policy briefings for agency officials. Assisting in preparation of testimony for Congressional hearings. Serving as primary representative to present the Office's views and recommendations on legal and policy matters.
    • Performing the full range of supervisory duties, including evaluating employee performance; making recommendations for appointment and promotion; hearing and resolving complaints; identifying development and training needs of employees; and other related supervisory tasks.

    INTRODUCTION:

     

    The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney seeks candidates for anticipated future full time Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney vacancies. The Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys prosecute criminal cases occurring within Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park


    ABOUT THIS ROLE 
    This is an at-will position which serves at the pleasure of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.  An Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney is primarily responsible for handling day to day prosecution of cases in District Courts and Circuit Court that are not otherwise assigned, including trials of a wide variety of misdemeanors and felony cases, preliminary hearings, motions dockets, and appeals, as well as handling assigned cases not handled by Sr. Assistants and Deputies. Duties also include serving as “Duty CA” and responding to calls and questions from citizens, police officers and defense attorneys on a rotating basis, attending relevant trainings, ride-alongs with police officers and engaging in public activities to connect as active members with the community we serve. 

    PREFERENCES
    The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree and a strong interest in Criminal law. Some experience as a criminal prosecutor or criminal defense is preferred, but not required.  We seek a candidate that works cooperatively with the police departments in our jurisdiction, can manage a large caseload, has a zealous work ethic and proven ability to work with a team.  A successful candidate must have a strong interest in advocating for the community’s best interest in a variety of cases.

     
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    Must be a member of the Virginia State Bar in good standing. 

    ENTRY SALARY: $75,000.00 – 115,000.00/yr.
    We offer excellent pay and benefits including VA State Retirement and a generous leave accrual.

    About This Role:
    This is an at-will position which serves at the pleasure of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.  A Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney is primarily responsible for oversight of investigation and prosecution of cases as assigned in the areas of Violent Crime Unit, Special Victims Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, and Juvenile Offender Unit.  Duties include handling and trying of cases, attending trainings relevant to assigned cases; filling in for Deputy as needed; On-call responsibilities for after work questions on cases; Duty desk responsibilities. 

    PREFERENCES
    The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree and at least five (5) years of experience in criminal prosecutor or criminal defense.  We seek a candidate that works cooperatively with the police departments in our jurisdiction, can manage a large caseload, has a zealous work ethic and proven ability to work with a team.  Criminal jury trial experience is required. Successful candidate must have a strong interest in advocating for victim’s rights, specifically in the areas of crimes against children and domestic and sexual violence.    

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    Must be a member of the Virginia State Bar in good standing. 

    ENTRY SALARY: $100,000.00 – 145,000.00/yr.
